WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State had three players score 20-plus points, as the Owls emerged with a 99-89 win over Emmanuel College in a non-conference men's basketball game in Boston on Wednesday night.
Lid Moreland led the Owls with 23 points, with Kenney Rogers and Angel Price-Espada each tallying 22. Rogers added a game-best 13 boards.
Rogers had a big first half to get the Owls started, as he scored 17 of his 22 before the break. Westfield led 52-42 at the half.
The Owls extended the lead to as many as 20 points at 78-58 with about nine minutes to play.
The Saints managed to work their way back into contention, trimming the margin down to nine, with three minutes left to play, but could get no closer.
The Owls benefitted from getting to the foul line, connecting on 21 of 30 attempts, while Emmanuel was just 5-14 at the sin stripe.
Mahari Gurrier led the Saints with 20 points Zaire Baines added 16 points and seven assists.
Westfield improves to 4-2 on the season with the win, while the Saints are now 0-4. Westfield will next travel to Anna Maria for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
