Men’s Ice Hockey Loses Tough Battle to Owls

NASHUA, NH: Rivier men's ice hockey lost against Westfield State University in OT today at Conway Arena.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 12/6/22

- Score: Westfield St. 5, Rivier 4

- Records: Rivier (5-6-1), Westfield St. (5-4-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Milan Breczko (Klasterec Nad Ohri, Czech Rep) earned the first Raider goal of the game in the first period with assists credited to Josh Sanchez (Potsdam, NY) and Carter Poulin (Berlin, NH). A few minutes later, Sanchez recorded his own goal for Riv with a pass from Breczko.

- Cooper Board came out strong in the second period to get the Owls on the board, with an assist from Mathieu Jones. Westfield State's Brett Williams went ahead to score on a power play with assists credited to Dawson Garcia and Board. The Raiders battled back to score on a power play with a goal from Billy Hartnett (Weymouth, MA) and passes from Logan Dapprich (Amherst, MA) and Poulin. The Owls quickly answered with another power play goal credited to Dan Long and assists from Joseph Carbone and Jones.

- Jon Tavella (East Longmeadow, MA) of Rivier netted the fourth goal for the team, assists were from Nicolas Paolucci (Toronto, ON) and Cormac Hayes (East Longmeadow, MA). 30 seconds later, Owls' Cory Morris passed to Thomas Reilly which he then handed the puck off to Colin Roe who scored, sending the game into OT.

- Rivier contained possession for the majority of overtime, but Board was able to breakaway from the Riv defenders to score the game winning goal for Westfield State, assists were credited to Tom Skold and Daniel Finegan.

- Shots: Westfield St. 34, Rivier 26

- Saves: Westfield St. 30, Rivier 21

- Penalties: Rivier 14 minutes on 7 infractions, Westfield St. 8 minutes on 4 infractions
