Dasilva-Medeiros Equals Saves Mark in 6-3 Win Over Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Senior closer Tyler Dasilva-Medeiros (Taunton, Mass.) equaled the program's all-time saves record as the Bridgewater State University baseball team posted a 6-3 victory over Gordon College on Monday afternoon at J. Tec White Field.

The Bears improve to 14-5 on the season with their sixth straight win, while the Fighting Scots fall to 8-14. Bridgewater State is 4-1 versus Gordon since the two teams first met in 2016.

Dasilva-Medeiros tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to notch his fourth save of the season and 15th of his career. The senior righthander tied the Bears' career mark set by Kevin O'Leary in 1996 and equaled by BSU Hall of Famer Fred Martin in 1998. Dasilva-Medeiros retired six of the eight batters he faced including one strikeout.

Senior centerfielder Sean Goudey (Weymouth, Mass.) reached safely four times to highlight the Bears' offense. Goudey went 3-for-3 with a pair of bunt singles and a walk. He scored a run and knocked in one.

Junior left fielder Cam James (Ipswich, Mass.) and freshman first baseman Joshua Selander (Granby, Conn.) also notched multiple hits for Bridgewater State. James singled twice and scored a pair of runs in four at bats, while Selander went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

The Bears got on the board in the top of the second inning. Back-to-back singles by James and Selander put runners at the corners with one out. An RBI squeeze bunt by Goudey plated James with the first run of the game.

A bases loaded walk to senior centerfielder Ben Chase (Hudson, Mass.) knotted the game at 1-1 in the home half of the second.

BSU junior shortstop Kevin Lindsay (East Bridgewater, Mass.) singled to lead off the top of the third inning, stole second with two outs, and came around to score on an RBI double by Thornell.

Junior catcher Eric Longley (Mansfield, Mass.) walked with the bases loaded to force in a run in the top of the fourth and the Bears added another run in the frame on a double play groundout to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Fighting Scots answered with a Chase RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Consecutive walks to sophomore first baseman Jacob Blake (Sutton, N.H.) and freshman catcher Hunter Simpson (Prospect, Conn.) put runners on first and second with one out in the sixth. Chase rapped a potential double play ball to the shortstop, but the throw from second to first was wild allowing Blake to score all the way from second.

The Bears extended the lead to 6-3 on a pair of sacrifice flies by Lindsay and junior right fielder Jay Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) in the top of the ninth.

Freshman lefthander Dan Jasmin (East Meadow, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate win for Bridgewater State. Jasmin (1-0) came on to start the bottom of the third inning and gave up two runs (one earned ) on four hits over four innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Sophomore righthander Brandon Bloom (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for Gordon. Bloom (1-2) allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings with a pair of walks.

Chase (2-4, 2B, BB, SB, 2RBI) and sophomore second baseman Jonathan McIntyre (Carmel, N.Y.) tallied two hits apiece for the Fighting Scots. McIntyre singled twice in five at bats.

The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock from Bridgewater State's Alumni Park.
