FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's basketball team connected on 15 three-pointers on Saturday afternoon, as the Lancers knocked off Fitchburg State University 95-68 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Parkinson Gymnasium.
With the win, Worcester State improves to 8-9 overall on the season, and moves to 4-1 in MASCAC action.
The 15 triples was just one shy of matching a Worcester State program record for three-pointers made in a game, set on January 23, 2018 in a loss to Bridgewater State.
Worcester State senior Tyler Dion (Barre, Mass.) was the game's leading scorer with 24 points. He converted on six of his eight three-point attempts, while also shooting nine for 12 from the floor. Sixteen of Dion's 24 points came in the second half, which matched a game-high with Fitchburg's Xavier Betancourt.
Junior Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) also turned in a solid performance for the Lancers, recording 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Lancer senior Erik Bjorn (Holden, Mass.) had the game's lone double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 boards.
Fitchburg State was led by Betancourt, who netted 18 points in the defeat.
Worcester State will return to the court with a Monday night road trip to New York City for a rescheduled contest against Baruch College. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
