Falcons Blanked By Bears, 3-0

Lamprey stops three shot for Green and Gold 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Bears for Bridgewater State University this evening in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly grabbed the lead in the seventh minute of play when sophomore Jessica Morse (Leominster, Mass.) fired a shot on frame, but senior Victoria Camera (Westport, Mass.) cleared the ball off the goal line to preserve the 0-0 stalemate.

Bridgewater State's best scoring opportunity of the first occurred at the 23:35 mark of second quarter with sophomore Zoe Bergeron (Blackstone, Mass.) put a shot on goal before Falcons keeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) was able to deny the scoring chance to keep the score dead locked at 0-0 going into halftime.

Following the break, Bridgewater State broke the scoreless draw in the 45th minute as senior Katie Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.) collected a loose ball of a rebounded shot and deposited the ball inside the far post for her second goal of the season to make the score 1-0.

The Bears doubled their margin (2-0) at the 53:09 mark when sophomore Hannah Rolfe (Easton, Mass.) settle a  rebound following a defensive save from sophomore Emma Ganley (Auburn, Mass.) and struck for her first mark of the 2021 campaign.

The visitors secured the victory in the 55th minutes of play with Swart receiving a pass from junior Sophia Morse (West Bridgewater, Mass.), who then slide a shot into the back of the cage for her second tally of the contest, resulting in the 3-0 final.

This evening's contest marked the 35th meeting between the two squads in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons 7-26-1 all time when taking on the Bears

Bridgewater State has won the ten of the last 11 matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 2-1, shootout decision in the last meeting on Oct. 1, 2019 at Elliot Field

Fitchburg State finished with a slim 11-9 margin in shots, while also holding a 17-8 advantage in penalty corners

Morse stopped one shot for the Falcons, while junior Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) added three saves for the Green and Gold

Freshman Emily Ronan (North Billerica, Mass.) turned aside eight shots for the Bears

Sophomore Emma Ganley (Auburn, Mass.) added one defensive save for Fitchburg State

Falcons return to action on Thursday when they host the Raiders of Rivier University for a non-conference matchup, starting at 6:00 PM. Bears will host Anna Maria on the same date with a 7:00 pm start time.
