Owls Fall In Makofski Title Tilt

Westfield trailed the hosts, 35-34 at the half.
The Owls grabbed a brief lead when Marcus Collins (Rindge and Latin/Cambridge, Mass.) scored the first bucket of the second half. Union gradually extended its lead to as many as eight points, holding a 66-58 margin after a pair of Brendan Laing free throws with 4:26 to play.
Westfield had one last run in them, trimming the Dutchmen lead to 66-65 as Collins drained 1-of-2 free throws with 2:16 left in regulation. The Owls could not get over the top, as Union connected on 7-of-8 free throws in the final 51 seconds to hold on for the win.
Collins finished with 16 points and seven rebounds and earned All-Tournament honors. Peter Mafo (Lynn, Mass.) added nine for the Owls.
Union was led by 23 points from Jackson Mannix, Laing added 12 and Kevin Jefferson nine.
Westfield falls to 3-3 on the season, while Union improves to 3-0.
The Owls will next travel to Emmanuel College on Tuesday for a 5:30 tip off.
