Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-4 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Bridgewater raced out to an 8-0 lead, highlighted by a hat trick from junior Katherine Tracy (Marion, Mass.) and a pair from senior Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.). 

The Falcons broke the scoring streak when junior Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.) dished to sophomore Brooke Johnson (Billerica, Mass.) for her fourth of the season. Alves found sophomore Mackenzie Ullrich (Oakdale, Conn.) with four minutes to go in the first frame. Bridgewater would reel off three goals last to hold a 13-2 lead at intermission

Falcons senior Jillian Whalen (South Hadley, Mass.) had the play of the day going coast-to-coast to tip the twine for her first goal of the season on senior day. Bridgewater would outscore the Green and Gold the rest of the way. Junior Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) would add an 8-meter score for the hosts, while freshman Katherine Wrona (Belchertown, Mass.) collected her first collegiate goal for the Bears. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Senior Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Jillian Whalen were honored in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day.
  • Netminder Francesca Reyes (Malden, Mass.) had 17 saves in the loss
  • Bridgewater tandem of Olivia Kerrigan (Braintree, Mass.) and Laura Giovaniello (Walpole, Mass.) combine for five saves in the win.
  • Tracy paced the Bears with five goals and one assist, while Hiller and Katie Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.) each had hat-tricks
