Owls Work 1-1 Draw at Worcester State

Westfield State junion Carter Daughdrill (Easthampton, Mass.) one timed a shot from the top of the 18 late in the second half to even the score as Westfield State and Worcester State played to 1-1 draw on Saturday at Coughlin Field in Worcester.

Westfield is now 4-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the league, while Worcester is 1-5-1 and 0-1-1 in the conference

Daughdrill's goal came after an Owls' throw in was attempted to be headed away by a Worcester defender, but bounced right to Daugdhrill at the top of the penalty area, where he rushed in and one-timed the shot over the leaping hands of first year Worcester goalkeeper Sergio Torrado (Arroyomolinos, ES) to send the game into halftime tied 1-1. 

Worcester had taken a 1-0 lead in the 17^th minute of a free kick from junior Wilbur Garcia (Bilboa, Spain) who placed the ball perfectly for a header by senior Malcom Hawkins (View Park, CA) who sent it flying over the leaping arms of Owls goalkeeper Luke Theroux (Chicopee, Mass.) to grab a 1-0 lead.

The second half of action was an even match between the two teams as each worked to crack the tie. Westfield would record six attempts while Worcester would attempt seven and have a 3-1 edge in the corners, but both teams had trouble finding the frame. Torrado would end the game with two saves while Theroux would wrap up the day with four.
