Fisher Takes Doubleheader From Salem State

LYNN, Mass. -- Salem State scored three runs in the first, but it was not enough as Fisher came back to take a 6-3 decision over the Vikings in the first game of their doubleheader at Fraser Field. Salem State managed just two hits as the Falcons took the nightcap 8-0 behind a strong pitching performance from Johann Doerrer, who pitched six scoreless innings. Fisher improves to 26-13 on the season while the Vikings dip to 4-5.

EJ Field (Gloucester, Mass.) scored the first run of game one in the first inning on a wild pitch before Ernest McClary (Waterbury, Conn.) plated two more runs with a single to left as the Vikings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Trailing 3-2 in the fourth, the Falcons took a one-run lead following a triple by Nicholas Lucchese and an RBI groundut by Mitchell Lundholm. The Falcons iced the game in the fifth on a run scoring triple by Jacob Deziel and a RBI groundout by Reynaldo Vega. William Carpenter earned the win going the distance allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Nicholas Rector suffered his first defeat of the year after allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks in 3.1 innings.

Starter Johann Doerrer took a no-hitter into the sixth for the Fisher in game two before Zach Piroh (Bridgeport, Conn.) hit a two-out double. Jomar Moreta (Lynn, Mass.) added a single, but reliever Angel Alicea ended the threat with a strikeout. Doerrer finished with a shutout, ending with a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and five walks. The Falcons scored fours runs on five hits in the first off starter Matthew Enos (Beverly, Mass.), who was replaced by Carl Beatrice (Wilmington, Mass.) with two outs in the opening inning. A single run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth increased the Falcons' lead to 8-0. Enos allowed four runs - three earned - on five hits.
