Volleyball Rolls to 3-0 Win Over Lesley

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Lesley University on Thursday evening at Medford High School. The Bears won by set scores of 25-0, 25-6 and 25-2.

Bridgewater improves to 3-2 on the season with its second straight win, while Lesley falls to 0-7. The Bears are 3-0 versus the Lynx since the two teams first met in 2019.

Bridgewater notched 32 aces in the match with no serving errors and the Bear also posted a .439 hitting percentage. The 32 aces marked the second highest in team history. The 2005 squad recorded 34 aces in an October match against MCLA.

Defensively, the Bears limited the Lynx to just four kills, a -.217 hitting percentage and two aces.

Senior setter Savannah Quintal (Assonet, Mass.) recorded 13 aces, all in the first set, to go along with two kills and three aces. Quintal was just one ace shy of the BSU single-game mark of 14 set by Jennifer Cedrone in 2001.

Junior libero Victoria Caiano (Acushnet, Mass.), freshman outside hitter Lilah Evans (South Deerfield, Mass.) and sophomore outside hitter Alexandra VanderPol (Marion, Mass.) added five aces apiece for the Bears, while freshman outside hitter Kim Gowell (Durham, N.H.) registered four kills, junior setter Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) tallied nine assists and freshman middle hitter Alexis Starks (Milford, Mass.) notched six digs.

Both teams are off until next week. The Bears travel to Dean College on Tuesday evening for a six o'clock match with the Bulldogs, while the Lynx head to Anna Maria College to take on the AMCATS on Wednesday also at six.
