Softball Swept by Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Framingham State University softball team swept a doubleheader with visiting Bridgewater State University on Friday afternoon at Maple Street Field. The Rams took the opener by a score of 3-1 and complete the sweep with a 9-1 five-inning victory in game two.

The Rams improve to 11-1 on the season, while the Bears fall to 2-3-1.

Game One

In the opener, the Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs on RBI singles from Laela Pepin and Kirsten Dick.

The score remained 2-0 until the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, the Bears cut the deficit in half on a solo home run to deep centerfield off the bat of rookie Morgan Cournoyer (Burrillville, R.I.). The dinger marked the first of Cournoyer's collegiate career.

The Rams tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Grace Swanson to reach the final margin of 3-1.

Swanson, Pepin and Camille Desrochers finished the opener with two hits apiece, while Madelyn Klingel (Windsor, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Bears.

Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going seven innings allowing one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts.

Kelley Reichert (Milford, Mass.) took the loss for the Bears going six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on 10 hits.

Game Two

In game two, Jacqui Schwalm staked the Rams to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run triple. Keely Scotia doubled the Rams lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning.

The Bears got a run back in the top of the third inning when Megan Sharon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) walked and scored all the way from first on a Reichert RBI double.

The Rams would plate five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the mercy rule victory. Dick knocked in a pair of runs with a single and Scotia added an RBI triple. Payton Ceglarski followed with a sacrifice fly and Morgan Poli capped off the game in walk-off fashion with an RBI single to right.

Scotia went 3-for-3 for the Rams in game two with a run scored and three RBI, while Kelsey McGuill and Pepin finished with two hits apiece.

Alexandra Ruprecht (Kingston, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a double to pace the BSU offense, while Sharon singled and walked in two plate appearances.

Shannon Ward earned the victory in the circle going five innings allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Laura Hatch (Middleboro, Mass.) took the loss for the Bears as she allowed nine runs on ten hits over 4 2/3 innings.
