Lancers Fall in Conference Opener

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers Volleyball team dropped their conference opener after a damp court situtation moved the game from Tuesday night to Wednesday. The Lancers lost the match 3-1 (25-23, 25-29, 24-26, 25-17). The Lancers slip to 0-1 in the MASCAC and 1-7 overall while the Owls move to 1-0 in conference, 4-3 overall.

Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass./ North Quincy) and Cassidy D'Esposito (Quincy, Mass./ North Quincy) led the Lancers with 22 total attacks in the match. Burgio also kept her dig trend alive with 22 in the match while teammate Cassandra Millea added another 13. Angela Colonis closed the night with 17 assists and two services Aces in the loss for Worcester State. D'Esposito  connected for 10 kills in the setback.  Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica) and Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass./ Longmeadow) paced the Owls with 15 and 10 kills respectively. Julia Dangel- Garcia (Ashland, Mass./ Ashland) dished out 27 assists and picked up 10 digs in the win.

The Owls took the first two sets and erased a seven-point deficit in the third before the Lancers pulled away from the 24-24 deadlock by way of a service error and block.

Angela Colonis (Waterford, Conn./ Waterford) registered double-digit assists (17) and digs (12) for the Lancers.

 

The Lancers continue with conference play on Saturday, Sept. 17 when they host a tri-match that will see them square off against Framingham State and St. Joesph's (ME.)
