Lancers Taken Down By Bears

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Football team (2-2, 2-1) look to bounce back from their first conference defeat last week versus Westfield State that saw the game go down to the final play in Worcster's homecoming meeting with the Owls. They team is fueled from that close finish and looking to add another win to their column in their afternoon meeting with the Bridgewater State Bears.

Final

Worcester State: 7

Bridgewater State: 42

How it Happened:

The opening quarter of football action saw the Lancers defense hard at work to counteract the Bears fast offensive start. Worcester would open up with first possession of the game but the drive would result in a punt by Worcester State, a favor that would be returned on Bridgewater's opening possession. The first scoring action would occur halfway through the opening quarter when a fumble would hand the ball to the Bears in the visitor's end zone and, with the successful extra point attempt, Bridgewater up 7-0. The following Worcester possession would see them smothered by the Bears defense in four plays, forcing them to drop back into their endzone in a bid to get around the line, resulting in a safety and a 9-0 score in Bridgewater's favor. The ensuing Bears possession would require just to plays and a penalty for them to claim the 16-0 lead off a 30 yard pass from Jaden Moseley to Josh Registre.

In the opening action of the second quarter Worcester would look for their first scoring action of the day, but the Bears defense was not returning any of Worcester's early favors, holding them on the Bridgewater nine yard line on a 4th and one attempt. Bridgewater would quickly turn their possession over on downs but would claim another safety off the Lancers for an 18-0 lead immediately followed up with a 60 yard completion on the next play to carry a 25-0 lead into halftime.

Second half action would see a stall in the scoring and a return to the opening of the game as Bridgewater would turn over the ball and Worcester would be forced to punt. The lone scoring action of the third was a field goal from the Bears that would move all the action to the fourth quarter with the tally set at 28-0. Worcester would finally close down the shutout prospect midway through after Senior Adam Hill (Lunenburg, MA) completed a pass to sophomore Lance Williams (Westerly, RI) for 37 yards, and a made extra point, to bring the lead down to 7-28. An interception on the Lancers next possession would move the score to 35-7 for Bridgewater. In the final three minutes Bridgewater would grab a long distance sprint to grab another touchdown to claim a 42-7 lead which would hold until the clock hit 00:00.
