Falcons and Pilgrims Earn Non-Conference Draw



Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer posted a 1-1 draw with the Pilgrims of New England College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

The Pilgrims took a 1-0 lead just before the first intermission when first-year Briana Lopes (East Providence, Mass.) collected a rebound off a direct kick from classmate Fernanda Rojas (Puebla, Mex.) for her second goal of the season.

The Falcons knotted the score in the 72nd minute. On a set corner play, freshman Regina Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) found an open Maddie Hippert (Leicester, Mass.) and a 1-1 game. Junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) gave the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead with 11 minutes to play when she intercepted a clear from the Pilgrims'' netminder and deposited her third goal of the season inside the left post.

With less than two minutes to play, New England College tied the match as freshman Brynn Murphy (Unitity, NH) netted her first collegiate goal with a strike from 25-yards out.

Inside the Numbers

  • Fitchburg State held the advantage in shots (32-14) and corner kicks (6-3)
  • Senior Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) made 10 saves in the first half, while junior Skyla Vaudo (Burlington, Mass.) earned the tie.
  • Freshman Stephanie Bronowicki (Corona, Calif.) had 21 stops for the Pilgrims.
