BISON TAKE TWO FROM LANCERS

Worcester, Mass. – The Worcester State University Lancers fell to the Nichols College Bison in a softball doubleheader Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at the Nichols Softball Field.

Game One: Bison 14, Lancers 6

Nichols College got on the scoreboard early, earning a combined 8 runs in the first 3 innings. Both teams were held scoreless in the 4th inning and then the Lancers found their swing in the 5th inning earning a total of 6 runs. Within two, the Bison powered back in the bottom of the 5th to put the game away 14-6, after 6 innings played.

For the Lancers: Brynna Meeker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run. Ally Tocman went 2-for-3. Emma Lanpher went 2-for-4, with one run scored. Jacqui Schwalm and Naraylee Baez were both credited with two at bats and one sacrifice hit. Emily Bartlett pitched two innings allowing 4 hits. She also had one at bat and one run scored.

Game Two: Bison 7, Lancers 2

Game two proved to be a defensive standoff through the first four innings. Both teams earned one run in the 5th inning to keep the score tied. Ally Tocman reached home in the 6th to give the Lancers the 2-1 lead, however the Bison answered back with a 6-run inning. Molly Glynn was able to reach base on a single through the left-side in the second, but the Bison clinched the third out on the next batter, completing the sweep.

Jen Thorburn pitched five innings, allowing just 4 hits on 24 batters faced. Ally Tocman went 2-for-3 for the second consecutive game with one run. Jacqui Schwalm went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

The Lancers will return to action on Saturday, April 23 vs Framingham State in a doubleheader MASCAC match-up.
