Worcester, MA- After an exciting game yesterday afternoon at the DCU Center, the Worcester State Women's Ice Hockey team (9-8-1, 6-2-1) makes the trip north to Plymouth State in a potential top seed determining battle with the Panthers this afternoon.
Final:
Worcester State: 0
Plymouth State: 1
How it Happened:
The first period would begin with the Lancers defense getting busy early on as junior goaltender Kelsey Czerniawski (Chicopee, MA) would get six saves within the opening minutes. Worcester's defense would only give up one more shot on goal before the offense started to get their juice flowing but it would end scoreless after one. The Panthers would grab the first period edge with 11 shots to Worcester's 5. Worcester would aim to find more benefit from power play chances in the following periods as the Panther powerkill struck them a blow twice in the first 20.
The Lancer offense would once again have a slow start but the defense would hold the line against the flying Panther's offense as Czerniawski would continue to play elite goaltending. Worcester would again have the power play opportunity but the Panther's power kill would be top notch again and the period would remain tied 0-0.
Worcester State's offense would up the action and intensity but still could not put a score on the board while the defensive side would continue to rise to the Plymouth challenge. Despite the Lancer's best defensive efforts, the wall cracked with three minutes left in the game to fall 1-0 to the Panthers.
Czerniawski would end the game with 25 saves in the battle.
What's Next:
The Lancers (9-9-1, 6-3-1) have a few days off before they are again on the road to New England Sports Complex to face Framingham State next Friday at 8:10pm.
