Worcester, MA- After a thrilling last second victory on Saturday afternoon over SUNY Poly the Worcester State Men's Basketball team (3-6, 0-0) round out their 2024 side of the schedule with a trip to Lasell tonight as they look to make it 2 in a row against the Lasers.
Final
Worcester State: 63
Lasell: 74
How it Happened:
Tonight's matchup between the Lasell Lasers and the Worcester university Lancers was a back and forth affair as soon as the whistle blew. Worcester was able to get off to a hot start going up by six with the help of junior Samuel Batista (Peabody, MA) who had a three and a set of free throws early in the game. Despite these offensive efforts made by Worcester, Lasell was able to battle back and go up midway through the half by eight. Fortunately enough for the Lancers senior Bradnon Goris (Bronx, NY) was able to create lots of plays for his teammates as he was able to get four assists on the half and dropping the ball down to his bigs for some easy lay-ins. First year Camdyn Shoesmith and junior Junior Efosa (Lawrence, MA) had solid first halves as they both put up six points helping the Lancers leave the half up 31-30.
Second half action would see a continuation in see-saw control of the game with junior Ayme Daguilh (West Boylston, MA) opening up with a jumper to take the 33-30 lead. Worcester would push their lead up to five before a mid round surge by the Lasers would see them take the lead before pushing the lead to six. Junior Shawn Hebert (Ayer, MA) would begin to resettle the Lancers offense with a deep three to begin to cut into the surge. The Lasers began to attack again late in the half pushing their lead out to 11 as Worcester worked to bring the game back within range, but as both teams traded baskets the gap became just too large for Worcester as they fell to Lasell 74-63.
Shoesmith would end the night with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Lancers.
