Westfield, Mass. - The Fitchburg State University fell to the Owls of Westfield State, 17-5 in MASCAC conference action on a chilly Thursday night at Alumni Field.

How It Happened

The Owls jumped out to a 9-0 advantage and held Fitchburg State scoreless in the first half. Cassidy Connolly (Woburn, Mass.) scored twice in the  9-0 run capping the run with a free position goal with 11:04 left in the first half.

Fitchburg rallied, scoring four of the first five goals in the second half, to trim the lead to 10-4 on a Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) free position goal. Sam Donohoe (Pepperell, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals late in the second half, scoring the 100th point of her career with 4:11 left in the game.

Inside the Numbers

  • Miele paced the Green and Gold with a hat trick, a ground ball and a pair of draw controls
  • Connolly led Westfield with three goals, three assists and four ground balls
  • Westfield held the advantage in shots (37-7) and ground balls (31-17)
  • Netminder Francesca Reyes (Malden, Mass.) turned back 15 saves and had five groundballs in the loss for the Falcons, while her counterpart Lily Sears (Medway, Mass.) made one save for her first win of the season.
