Box Score

SALEM, Mass. -- Freshman Kathryn LaCroix (Gloucester, MA) scored the game-winning goal with just over four minutes remaining to lead the Bridgewater State Bears past the Salem State Lady Vikings, 1-0, in Little East Conference field hockey action this evening in Salem.

LaCroix, who scored her second goal of the year, placed a shot over the head of Salem State goalie Jess McKenna (Rowley, MA) to give Bridgewater State (5-3, 3-1 LEC) the one-goal victory.

The Lady Vikings (4-3, 1-3 LEC), playing in their own end for most of the first half, nearly broke the scoreless tie at the 6:55 mark when junior Karen Atkinson (Reading, MA) tried to put one past junior goalie Katie Webber (Arlington, MA).  Webber made a diving stop to preserve the 0-0 tie.

The Lady Vikings pressured the Bears defense for most of the second half and missed an open net with 7:50 to play.  Salem State would not get another scoring chance the rest of the match as Bridgewater State tightened up their defense and held on to the one goal victory.

Weber made four saves to earn her fifth win as well as her fourth shutout of the season for Bridgewater State, which snapped a three-game losing streak. McKenna, stopped two shots in the loss to drop her record to 4-3.

The Lady Vikings travel to UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, October 3rd, while the Bears host Worcester State with a 1:00 PM start.
