Baseball Falls to #21 Wooster at the Snowbird Classic, 19-2

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The College of Wooster baseball team cruised to a 19-2 victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.

The Fighting Scots improve to 1-2 on the young season, while the Bears fall to 0-4. Wooster was ranked 21st in the most recent D3baseball.com/ National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 Poll.

Wooster scored three runs in the top of the first inning and added five more in the fifth, three in the sixth, one in the seventh and put the game well out of reach with a seven-run eighth inning.

Evan Faxon tossed six scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season on the mound for Wooster. Faxon (1-0) scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out eight.

Dan Gail went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and two-run double to lead the Fighting Scots' 19-hit attack. Gail also walked twice.

Aaron Spidell finished 3-for-6 at the plate with a double, a run and three RBI.

Nick Strausbaugh (2-5, BB, SB, 3R, RBI), Ben Gbur (2-5, BB, 2R, RBI), Dan Harwood (2-3, 2B, BB, 3R, 2RBI), Dane Camphausen (2-2, R, RBI) and Ryan Farrell (2-5, 2R, RBI) also recorded multiple hits for Wooster.

Joey Molis (Cumberland, R.I.) paced Bridgewater State's ten-hit attack as he singled three times in four at bats. David Skiendiel (Norton, Mass.) also reached safely three times with a pair of singles and a walk. Jonathan O'Donnell (Hull, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with an RBI double off the bench.

BSU pitching gave up 19 runs (17 earned) on 19 hits with seven walks, three hit batsmen and seven strikeouts.

Guy Quartarone (Foxborough, Mass.) worked around a hit and a walk and struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless inning of work for the Bears.

The Snowbird Baseball Classic continues on Wednesday as the Bears take on the Pitt.-Bradford at 5:30.
