Lancers shut out Westfield to remain undefeated in the MASCAC

Worcester, MA - Worcester State secured a 2-0 victory over the Westfield State Owls in conference play on a cloudy, cold afternoon at Coughlin Field to remain undefeated in the MASCAC. First year forward Brady Iovanni(Lunenburg, MA) netted his first goal of the season and recorded his fourth assist, while Junior forward Luke-Mark Anu(Salem, MA) scored his second goal of the season and Junior midfielder Manny Ramirez(Waltham, MA) recorded his third assist.

The Lancers started off strong on the offensive side, with a crossbar shot by Iovanni two minutes into the first half. Iovanni later scored in the twelfth minute, with an assist from Ramirez. The Lancers would finish the first 45 minutes with 9 shots(3 on goal). 

Worcester would see the net again in the 74th minute with a shot from Luke-Mark Anu, his second goal in Worcester's last two games. Worcester finished the second half with 10 shots, bringing them to a total of 19 shots, while Westfield recorded 12 total. Junior Goalkeeper Dylan Ruberti(Westborough, MA) recorded three saves on three shots on goal, while Westfield keeper Emilio Mancuso saved five out of seven. 

 

The Blue & Gold's third shutout win of the season brings them to a 6-2-2(3-0, MASCAC) record on the season, while Westfield drops to 1-7-3(0-2-1, MASCAC). 

 

"It's a good feeling to score and assist in a game to help the team win", says Iovanni. "We've been working really hard to improve our game & lately our hard work has been paying off.". 

 

Catch the Lancers next Wednesday as they head down the road for a city rivalry matchup against Clark University. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
