Falcons Drop Non-Conference Decision To Fisher
Mirra and Sardella combine for ten kills for Green and Gold
Brookline, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Volleyball Team suffered a 3-0 setback to the Falcons of Fisher College this evening in non-conference action from the Pappas Gymnasium.

Set One
Fitchburg State opened the set with a 6-3 edge following a kill from junior Emily Gelinas (Westfield, Mass.) before Fisher took a 10-8 advantage on a service error. The Falcons regained the lead 17-15 as sophomore Samantha Mirra (Burlington, Mass.) notched a kill, but the hosts secured the first victory (26-24) on a block from Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.).
Set Two
The Falcons grabbed an early 3-2 edge on a kill from freshman Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, Mass.), Fisher responded with a 7-2 run (5-9) as Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) notched a kill. The Green and Gold battled back to knot the set at 15-15 with Sardella registering a service, but Fisher closed the set with three straight points, capped by a Saucier kill for the 25-17, second set triumph.
Set Three
Fisher raced out to a 7-0, third set lead on a Barnes kill before Fitchburg State answered with a 6-0 streak, capped by a Sardella kill to trim the lead 8-7. Trailing 11-8, the Falcons reduced the lead to 12-8 as Sardella notched another kill, but the hosts collected the victory as Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) registered a kill, resulting in the 25-13 final set score.

Mirra led the way for Fitchburg State with a team-best five kills, 19 digs, one assist, one service ace and one blocking assist, while Sardella added five kills, seven digs and one service ace. Senior Meredith Taylor (Reading, Mass.) was also strong for the Green and Gold, finishing with six assists and four digs.
For Fisher, Barnes concluded the match with a match-leading 14 kills, eight digs, one service ace, one solo block and one blocking assist, while Edsyl Iriarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) chipped with 17 digs, one assist and three service aces.
