Baseball Sweeps Fitchburg, Moves To 9-1 on Season

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State baseball improved to 9-1 on the season as the Owls swept a non-conference doubleheader from Fitchburg State by scores of 7-4 and 20-4.

In game 1, senior starting pitcher Vincenzo Camera picked up his first collegiate win for Westfield, tossing five innings while allowing three earned runs, scattering seven hits and striking out six.  Trevor Edwards worked the seventh inning to earn his sixth save of the season, and his third in the last two days.

Fitchburg led 2-0 after two innings getting a leadoff triple from Nick Cordeau and an RBI single from Zachary May.   Richard Sharpe doubled home a run in the second.

Westfield got two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score.   The Owls tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take control, getting RBI singles from Brett Dooley and Bryant Dana.

Casey Boudreau and Ethan Day each had a pair of hits for the Owls.  Sharpe, Cordeau and Richard Vail were all repeat hitters for the Falcons.  Alec Hanney started and took the loss for Westfield.

In the nightcap, it was bombs away for the Owls in the final game of the four-game set.  Westfield struck for five runs in the first, 10 runs in the second, and five in the fifth.

Kyle Andreoli rapped out four hits and three RBI in a spot start. Dooley and Spencer Cloutier each had two hits and a two-run double each.

Nate Langmeier pitched six innings, striking out 10 to earn his third win of the season.

Matthew Pingatore and May were the lone repeat hitters for Fitchburg. Adam Kirsch took the pitching loss.  Fitchburg drops to 0-4 on the season.

Westfield will be in action next Saturday with a pair of non-conference games against Mass Maritime.
