Worcester, MA- After a stunning 1-0 victory on Thursday over Southern Maine for their second win of the season, the Worcester State Field Hockey team (2-7, 1-2) looks to even their conference record at .500. They head to Framingham State in the first of the rematch battles of last year's conference championships that saw Worcester claim the 2-0 victory.
Final
Worcester State: 2
Framingham State: 0
How it Happened:
The Lancers look for their second straight road win and first conference road win of the season with a goal early on by senior forward Natalya Morin (Barre, MA) who has been leading Worcester in shots all season, providing Worcester with the early 1-0 lead. It would take Morin just six minutes into the game, as Worcester, while not scoring off the corner, was able to keep the pressure in the circle. Junior Allison Keenan (Marlborough, MA) would collect the ball, finding the perfect line to Morin to open the action. The rest of the quarter would see each team with opportunities but the Lancers dedicated their efforts to holding onto their early lead and keeping any major chances off the Rams plate.
The second quarter would see Framingham raise their pressure as they tried to tie the game and put themselves on more solid footing, opening the action with four shots rattled off before Worcester was able to claim their first attempt of the second. With just three shots in, and nearly 10 minutes into the quarter, Worcester would find a Morin to Morin connection as first year Rihanna Morin (Burrillville, RI) received the dish from Natalya Morin to see the Lancers grab the 2-0 lead. Framingham would not back down, trying to capitalize on the inevitable intensity drop of a two goal lead, rattling off three shots and claiming three corners, but the game would remain 2-0 at half time.
It was a relative quite third quarter for both teams as a majority of the time was spent in the midfield, with each team working and fighting to move the ball across the pitch but as the four quarter was set on the scoreboard, the Rams could feel the pressure rising and began a dedicated onslaught on the Lancers defense. Senior Madison Ferrara (Somerset, MA) still riding high from Thursday's shutout was not willing to concede her cage though, directing her defense and arranging the pressure to ensure that each Rams attempt never even made it to her, as her defensive core blocked up and contained each drive into the circle. As the final buzzer blew, Worcester would have its second straight shutout and second conference win of the season.
Ferrara would end the game with five saves in the shutout and Morin led the day with a goal and an assist for three points in the action.
