Women's Volleyball Dropped by Westfield State

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team struggled for offense on Tuesday evening, falling to Westfield State University 3-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Brissette Court. Set scores were 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.

With the defeat, Worcester State drops to 6-15 overall on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC. The Owls improve to 10-11 and stay perfect at 5-0 in conference play.

Three Lancers tied for the team lead with six kills for Worcester State, as sophomore Leelle Tyler (Longmeadow, Mass.) senior Megan Johns (Burrillville, R.I.), and freshman Gabby Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) all recorded half a dozen kills. Westfield State sophomore Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) led all players with 14 on the match, while recording just two attack errors.

Defensively, junior libero Madison Kuzio (Franklin, Mass.) led the way with a career-high 20 digs. Sophomore Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) also contributed 16 digs for the Lancers. Westfield State was led by libero Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.), who finished with 17. Senior Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) and freshman Erin Gaffney (Worcester, Mass.) each had four assisted blocks for the Lancers as well.

Worcester State hit just .054 percent for the match, with 27 kills to 21 errors. Westfield hit .127 with 37 kills and 21 errors.

The Lancers will look to return to the win column on Saturday when they travel to Mass. Maritime for a 5 p.m. start against the Buccaneers.
