Women's Lacrosse Upends Bridgewater State

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team closed out its 2021 season on Thursday evening with an 18-10 win over Bridgewater State University in a non-conference contest at John F. Coughlin Memorial Field.

With the win, Worcester State finishes the season with a record of 6-3, while the Bears close the book on their campaign at 4-6.

Both teams' offenses were clicking from the start, combining for 16 first half goals. Sophomore Lily Gendron (Lakeville, Mass.) opened the scoring 1:44 into the contest, the first of her four first half tallies. Abby Lauzon (Lakeville, Mass.), Emily Pavoni (Granby, Mass.), Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.), Shea Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.), and Sarah DesVergnes (Limerick, Maine) also found the back of the net for the Lancers in the opening 30 minutes.

Katherine Tracy and Kelsi Brennan each scored a pair in the first half to lead Bridgewater, who trailed 10-6 at the break.

Pavoni, Abby Magnuson (Ellington, Conn.), and Jarvis each scored in the first six minutes of the second half to give the Lancers a commanding seven-goal lead. Gendron would score three more second half goals, finishing the game with an impressive seven goals and two assists for nine points. Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Hannah Sledzieski (Northampton, Mass.) each scored in the closing minutes to clinch the victory for Worcester State. 

Brennan and Tracy each completed their hat tricks for the Bears in the second half. Emily Hiller and Savannah Herrington both scored in each half to finish with two goals apiece.

Worcester State senior goalkeeper Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) recorded seven saves to record her sixth win of the season. The loss went to Bridgewater State's Olivia Kerrigan, who made one save.
