Falcons Topped By Rams In Conference Action

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Women's Basketball team dropped an 85-32 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Athletics & Recreation Center.

 The Basics

How It Happened

1st quarter

Fitchburg State grabbed an early 6-5 edge on back-to-back three balls from freshman Aliza Sum (Lowell, Mass.) and sophomore Rylie Harlow (Hanson, Mass.). Framingham State regained the early lead with junior Flannery O'Connor (Amesbury, Mass.) netting four straight points to make the score 9-6.

The Falcons cut the lead to 9-8 as newcomer Juliana Davis (Templeton, Mass.) netted a layup before the Rams extended the margin to 22-10 on a Krystalee Fernandez (Ansonia, Conn.) jumper.

2nd quarter

The Green and Gold trimmed the deficit to 28-13 when sophomore Stephanie Hart (Shirley, Mass.) netted a layup, while Davis added a free-throw, but the hosts pushed the advantage to 30-13 on a Kathy Haidul (Gilford, N.H.) bucket.

Fitchburg State responded with a Hart jumper before the Rams closed out the half on a 15-0 run, capped by a Tavanese three pointer for the 43-15 lead going into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Framingham State upped the lead to 50-15 on buckets from Haidul, O'Connor and sophomore Katherine Haselton (Greenfield, Mass.) before Fitchburg State answered with three pointers by Harlow and sophomore Kathryn Hart (Shirley, Mass.) to make the score 54-23.

The Green and Gold answered again as K. Hart buried another three ball and a layup to reduce the lead to 60-28, but Tavanese responded for the Rams by hitting a three pointer for the 66-28 lead.

4th quarter

The Falcons opened the fourth frame with a basket from sophomore Delaney Brown (Billerica, Mass.) to make the score 66-30 before Framingham State pushed the margin to 74-30 as newcomer Gabriella Redford (Amesbury, Mass.) knocked down a three ball. The Rams secured the victory as sophomore Regan Fein (North Attleboro, Mass.) registered a layup, resulting in the 85-32 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by K. Hart with team-leading 11 points, three caroms and one assist
  • Harlow added six points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block
  • For the Rams, O'Connor finished with a game-best 16 points, ten boards and two blocks
  • Tavanese chipped in with 15 points and two boards
  • This evening's contest marked the 75th meeting between the Falcons and Rams on the hardwood with Fitchburg State 30-45 all-time when taking on Framingham State
