WESTFIELD, Mass. – Four different players scored goals to lift Russell Sage College to a 4-1 win over Westfield State University in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday night in Albany, N.Y.
Sage tallied three times in the first 21 minutes to put the Owls on the back foot.
El Hadhi Iba Sy started the scoring in the fourth minute, folloed by a goal from Alejandro Aleo in the 13th minute and Taiwo Afolabi in the 21st minute to stake the Gators to a 3-0 lead.
Ammar Singaporewala scored 10 minutes into the second half to extend the lead to 4-0 before Westfield got on the scoreboard in the 70th minute with a goal from Will Bowen.
Sage outshot the Owls 13-7, while Westfield held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Westfield got seven saves in goal from Marko Kononenko, while Maximilian Bertmann made three saves.
The Owls will return home to host UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The game will feature the induction of the 1974 Owls men's soccer team, which reached the final four and finished third in the nation, to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, alongside their coach, the late John Kurty, who will be inducted in to the MASCAC Hall of Fame as well.
