Miller’s OT Winner Propels Falcons Past Corsairs

Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team posted a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday evening at the Wallace Civic Center.

In a pre-game ceremony head coach Dean Fuller was recognized for coaching in his 1,000-career game. Fuller hit the 1K mark on Thursday evening when the Falcons defeated Framingham State 4-3. Fuller became the 2nd head coach in NCAA Division III to eclipse the milestone.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State raced out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first frame. Sophomore Corey Tumenas (Leominster, Mass.) knocked in his third goal of the season at the 7:37 mark. Freshman Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, Mass.) and sophomore Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, Mass.) added helpers on the score.

The Green and Gold doubled the score with a man-advantage tally from senior Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) at 9:19.

UMass Dartmouth cut the deficit in half before the break with a goal from Michael Perrone (Mt. Sinai, NY).

The Corsairs notched the only goal in the second period when Jake Maynard (St. John, Ind.) found junior Michael Mania (Bayville, NJ) for his eighth goal of the season.

A scoreless third period sent both teams to overtime. Senior Joshua Miller (Saint Augustine, Fla.) ended the game just 26 seconds into extra play. Miller skated across the front of the net and wristed home the game-winner.
