Women's Soccer Falls To Owls In Non-Conference Action

Vaudo, Pendleton & Dawkins combine for 17 saves for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-0 decision to the Owls of Keene State University this afternoon in non-conference action from Elliot Field as the Falcons hosted its annual Pink Game.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly took the lead in the 25th minute of action when sophomore Charlotte Meixsell (Boxford, MA) fired a shot top corner only to have Owls keeper Sonia Moritz (Silver Spring, MD) make an outstretched save to preserve the 0-0 stalemate.

Keene State's best scoring opportunity of the first half occurred at the 41:57 mark as freshman Emily O'Connell (Plymouth, MA) and sophomore Giuliana Stolfi (Newington, CT) put back-to-back shots on target, but Falcons goaltender Cassandra Pendleton (Ware, MA) turned aside both shots to keep the contest scoreless.

Following the intermission, the Owls broke the 0-0 deadlock at the 58:39 mark with freshman Claire Halligan (Washington Township, NJ) firing a shot into the right side of the net for her first collegiate tally for the 1-0 advantage.

Keene State secured the victory at the 74:10 mark when O'Connell collected a feed from newcomer Elizabeth Tschudin (Sunapee, NH) and deposited a shot into the upper right corner for her second goal on the season to make the score 2-0.

The visitors tacked on an insurance goal with 26 second remaining in the contest when freshman Kinsey Dunegan (Ashford, CT) received a pass from sophomore Joclynn Tyler (Darlen, CT) and connected on her second score of the 2023 campaign, resulting in the 3-0 final.

  • Keene State held a 33-7 advantage in shots, while also finishing with a 5-3 edge in corner kicks
