Ice Hockey Upended By Rams In Conference Action

Archambeault nets lone goal for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Framingham State grabbed the lead 13:51 into the first period as junior Johnny Baker (Newton, MA) settled a feed from freshman Matthew Nuzzolilo (Worcester, MA) and found the back of the net for his first tally on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Rams doubled the lead (2-0) 43 seconds into the middle frame when senior Elijah Slaughter (Wilmar, MN) deposited a shot inside the far post for his second goal of the 2023-24 campaign with an assist from sophomore Sam Larkin (Douglas, MA).

In the third period of play, Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 5:35 mark with senior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, MA) converting a power-play opportunity, slipping a shot into the lower right corner for his third score on the year as freshman Michael Imala (Oak Lawn, IL) and junior Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA) assisted on the play.

Framingham State upped the lead to 3-1 three minutes later as junior Tyler Westfall (Annandale, VA) struck for his second marker of the season with an assist from sophomore Robert Bernier (Allen, TX). The visitors pushed the lead to 4-1 midway through the frame when senior Kaleb Kruskey (Dike, IA) collected a pass from junior Caleb Dusek (Dallas, TX) and registered his third goal on the year before Rams junior Ashton Collazo (Victor, NY) tacked on an insurance marker for the visitors with his fifth goal on the year, resulting in the 5-1 final.
