Lancers Dominant Second Half Sends them Past the Pride

Worcester, MA - Both Worcester State and Regis were both looking to continue their win streak Saturday afternoon at Brissette Court in Worcester. A slow first half put the Lancers behind early, but a strong second half saw the Lancers sailing past Regis.

The game started off with two three-pointers from Regis's Zakaria Latifi (Holliston, MA). Junior Brandon Goris (Bronx, NY) and senior Zion Hendrix (Charlotte, NC) both had back-to-back steals and made both layups. As the first half progressed Worcester was struggling to get organized defensively. Jamie Harvey (Robbins, IL) had a solid drive to the hoop for a Pride layup. Junior Ryan Rubenskas (Bridgewater, MA) had a block in the last few minutes of the half. Graduate Student Erik Bjorn (Holden, MA) ended the half with 7 rebounds and Hendrix with 7 assists.

A new team seemed to take the court for the second half as Worcester took off. A 3 from Hendrix started the Lancer's streak towards leading grabbing the lead on the scoreboard. Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, NY) of Regis retaliated with a 3 of his own, but Worcester was on a mission on the court. Once Worcester gained the lead they couldn't be stopped. Sophomore Aaron Nkumrah (Worcester, MA) had a block that was then sent to Rubenskas for a layup. Rubenskas ended the game with 16 rebounds, 11 of which were defensive. Both Nkumrah and Bjorn had 12 rebounds. The Lancers closed out the game 85-70.

The Lancers recorded three double-doubles on the night with Rubenskas' 28 points and 16 rebounds, Nkrumah's 17 points and 12 rebounds and Bjorn grabbing another 12 rebounds and 14 points on the afternoon. Hendrix was close to adding a fourth to the list with 12 assists on his seven points as the key distributor on either team.

Worcester (8-4, 0-0) has one more home game next Friday, December 16, to close out 2022. The Lancers will host Wentworth at 3pm.
