Worcester, MA- In the final game of the regular season, and an out of conference breather before next Friday's MASCAC semifinal game, the Worcester State Women's Ice Hockey team (13-9-2, 10-3-2) travel to Connecticut College to close out the season.
Final
Worcester State: 1
Connecticut College: 4
How it Happened:
With the final game of the season, Lancers are eager to end off on a win to carry into the postseason. The first would start off with an intense faceoff between the Worcester State Lancers and Connecticut College Camels as both teams are eager to find a goal. After a stretch of back and forth between the zones the Connecticut College Camels would score an opening goal. With 9 minutes left in the period, the Camels would utilize a power play and notch another goal for a 2-0 lead. The Lancers would play the rest of the period with stalwart defence, going into the first intermission with the score at 2-0.
Lancers would get back on the ice dedicated to even out the score board. However, with the majority of puck possession came between the Camels' sticks and the Lancers would be forced into more defensive playing as they try to steer the puck away from their zone. With half the period gone, Lancers would remain a defensive fortress. With 5 minutes left, Lancers would regain some footing and put pressure on the Camels, allowing for graduate student Sydney Vautour (Hamilton, MA) goal to cut into the Camels lead. Despite the numerous shots attempted by Connecticut College, they would not see another score on the board for them when faced against Worcester State Goalie sophomore Lana Pacific (Marlborough, MA), who blocked a total of 32 shots during the period.
The last period of the game would be heated as Lancers tried to go on the offense. One minute into the game Worcester State would get a power play, yet still remain with just a single goal as the Camels defense blocked up all the opportunities. During the third period Pacific would continue to be a fortress but just 7 minutes into the third the Camels would find an opening and score another goal, pushing the lead back to two for Connecticut. Despite more attacks on the net attempted by the Lancers, they were unable to find another opening in Connecticut's defense and with just two minutes left in the game the Camels would see another opening and record their fourth of the game.
Pacific would end the game with 47 saves in the regular season finale for the Lancers
