Falcons Conclude Annual Spring Break Trip

Grass, Kirkconnell Cisowski & Gauvin notch one hit each for Green and Gold

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped their final game of it's 2023 spring trip to Myrtle Beach by the score of 14-0 to the Redstorm of Rio Grande University at the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic this morning.

How It Happened

Rio Grande grabbed a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first as junior Cailtyn Brisker (Oak Hill, Ohio) blasted a two-run homer to center field. The Redstorm upped their lead to 8-0 in the following frame with Brisker, freshman Kayla Segwick (Richwood, Ohio), senior Christen Risner (Wheelersburg, Ohio), sophomore Peyton Young (Mt. Orab, Ohio) and freshman Gabby Adams (Grove City, Ohio) notching RBI base hits.

Rio Grande secured the victory in the bottom of the fourth with newcomer Emma Elkins (Logan, Wv.) lacing an RBI single to third base, while Brisker added an two-run double down the left field line, resulting in the 14-0 final.

  • First ever meeting between the Falcons and the Redstorm with Fitchburg State 0-1 all-time when taking on Rio Grande
  • Junior Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.), senior Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.), sophomore Julia Gauvin (Granby, Mass.) and junior Lauren Kirkconnell (Dayville, Conn.) collected one hit each for the Falcons
  • Sophomore Hannah Pelletier (Swansea, Mass.) gave up five runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of relief for Fitchburg State
