Women's Lacrosse Falls to MIT, 20-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-4 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Thursday evening at Jack Barry Field.

The Engineers improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Bears fall to 2-5. MIT holds a 6-3 lead in the all-time series as the two teams were meeting for the first time since 2018.

Senior attack Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a game-high five goals to lead the way for MIT, while senior attack Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied four goals and two assists and freshman midfielder Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) netted a hat trick. The Engineers also received two goals and two assists from junior midfielder Meredith Arteburn (Cooksville, Md.). Arteburn also recorded a game-best five draw controls.

Arterburn made it a ten-goal differential (12-2) with 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter as she converted off the free position. MIT maintained the double-digit advantage the rest of the way. 

Graduate attack Katie Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.), senior midfielder Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.), junior attack Savannah Herrington (Kinnelon, N.J.) and sophomore midfielder Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.) each found the back of the net for Bridgewater State with Swart and Herrington scoring off the free position. Langton and McIntyre also finished with three draw controls apiece.

The Engineers held a 36-17 shot advantage for the game as well as a 23-11 edge in ground balls, while draw controls were even at 13 apiece. MIT also recorded 18 caused turnovers and went 17-for-21 on clear attempts. Bridgewater converted on 9 of 18 clear attempts.

Arterburn, Flusche and Rabenold combined for ten caused turnovers with Arterburn forcing a game-best four BSU miscues.

Freshman goalkeeper Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wisc.) and senior netminder Abigail Kolyer (Manhasset, N.Y.) combined to make eight saves between the pipes for the Engineers with Dulde picking up her fourth win of the season. BSU junior Laura Giovaniello (Walpole, Mass.) turned aside eight shots in goal for the Bears.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears travel to the University of Southern Maine for a three o'clock game with the Huskies, while the Engineers entertain NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke College at noon.
