Falcons Clipped By Panthers In MASCAC Action

Plymouth, N.H. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team dropped a 7-4 decision to the Panthers of Plymouth State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Hanaway Rink.

How It Happened

Plymouth State opened the scoring at the 4:32 mark of the first period as sophomore Connor Tait (Boyds, Md.) deposited a shot into the right side of the net for his sixth goal on the year off assists from senior Myles Abate (Norwell, Mass.) and classmate Ted Austin (Sylvania, Ohio) for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 with just over three minutes remaining in the first period when freshman Brendan Walk (Clarkston, Mich.) tipped home a feed from junior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.) for his second score on the year.

In the middle frame, the Falcons grabbed the lead (2-1) at the 3:01 mark with sophomore Toivo Kramer (New York, N.Y.) blasted a shot inside the far post for third goal of the year .Plymouth State retied the contest at 2-2 minutes later as sophomore Dante Moretti (Powell, Ohio) struck for his second tally of the 2022-23 campaign.

The hosts grabbed a 3-2 margin at the 5;05 mark when newcomer Rider McCallum (Langley, B.C.) netted his fifth marker of the season. The Green and Gold responded with back-to-back marker from seniors Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) and Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) to take a 4-3 edge, but the Panthers retied the contest at 4-4 with graduate student Colin Stevens (Concord, N.H.) burying a shot into the back of the net at the 14:15 mark.

In the third period of play, Plymouth State broke the 4-4 stalemate midway through the stanza with Austin collecting a feed from sophomores Carson Lanceieve (Stewiacke, N.S.) and Anton Jelvik (Taby Sweden) and found the back of net for his first tally on the season.

The Panthers secured the victory with just under over five minutes remaining in the contest as Tait netted his second marker of the contest with assists from newcomer Will Rennick (Wasaga Beach. Ont.) and Abbate, resulting in the 7-4 final,
