WORCESTER, MA: Fitchburg State field hockey was defeated by the Lancers of Worcester State in conference action this evening by a score of 5-1.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/26/23

- Score: Worcester 5, Fitchburg 1

- Records: Worcester (4-4, 3-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (1-6, 0-3 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Lancers jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first quarter. Charlotte MacGregor started the scoring off 3:08 into the first after receiving a pass from Sophia Cavallo. Five minutes later, Kaelin Colemen would add on to give Worcester a 2-0 lead. Natalya Morin was credited with the assist on the goal. Emma Thomson would put in the third score of the quarter just before it ended at 14:41 to give the Lancers a 3-0 lead. Madison Avilla got the assists, ending the scoring in the first half.

- The Falcons would strike first in the second half. Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) continues to be the top option for the Fitchburg offense so far this season. She found the back of the net at 42:30 (3rd quarter) after a pass from teammate Samantha Rozum (Mashpee, MA). Worcester would answer back just three minutes later on a Grace Adams goal, with Avilla getting her second assist of the day. The final score of the day belonged to Worcester, who pushed their lead to four with a Zoe Athanasopoulos goal, with Adams credited for the assist.

- Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) did all she could for the Falcons in net, seeing 31 shots and making 26 saves. Sam Gastonguay got her third start in net for the Lancers, making four saves on five shots faced.
