 Falcons Surge Past Lancers, Move to 2-0 in Conference



Worcester, Mass. – Senior Allison Gough made 21 saves to propel the Fitchburg State University women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over the Lancers of Worcester State on Saturday morning at John F. Coughlin Field.

How It Happened

The Lancers took an early lead in the 17th minute when senior Kristen Biedleman (Holliston, Mass.) found classmate Hayley Mignon (Tewksbury, Mass.) for the first goal of the game.

Knotted at 1-1, after an own goal from the Lancers, the Green and Gold forged ahead.  Freshman Charlotte Meixsell (Boxford, Mass.) found a streaking Elizabeth Read (Chelmsford, Mass.) for the 2-1 lead. The Falcons extended their lead (3-1) when junior Ashley Porter (Upton, Mass.) collected a loose ball and deposited it past the Lancers' netminder.

Worcester State pressured in the second half, pouring 23 shots at the Fitchburg State defense; however, goaltender Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) made 11 stops in the frame to hold onto the win.

  • Worcester State held the advantage in shots (38-10) and corners (8-4)
  • Gough made 21 saves for the Falcons, while Mallory Dupuis turned back 5 shots for the Lancers
  • Read's score was her team-leading fourth of the season.
  • It is the first win over Worcester State in women's soccer since 2007.
