Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth volleyball team swept visiting Bridgewater State University, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center. UMass won by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Corsairs improve to 18-7 on the season while the Bears fall to 9-9.

UMass notched 37 kills on the evening and posted a .289 hitting percentage. The Corsairs also recorded 11 aces and seven blocks. Bridgewater finished with 27 kills, three aces and seven blocks. The two teams combined for 16 serving errors (eight apiece).

Sophomore outside hitter Kate Wade (San Clemente, Calif.) paced the Corsairs with a match-high 11 kills to go along with two aces and seven digs. Junior middle hitter Marley Alexander (Ashburn, Va.) checked in with nine kills, an ace and three blocks (one solo), while freshman defensive specialist Emily Pogorelec (Wayne, N.J.) led all players with 15 digs. Freshman setters Emma Rousseau (Seymour, Conn.) and Sabrina Bordone (Massapequa, N.Y.) combined for 31 assists. Rousseau also contributed four aces and Bordone added three kills and a pair of aces.

Freshman outside hitter Kim Gowell (Durham, N.H.) and freshman right side hitter Meaghan Coutu (Brookline, N.H.) registered six kills apiece for the Bridgewater with Gowell also record a solo block. The Bears also received 13 assists from senior setter Savannah Quintal (Assonet, Mass.), 11 assists and an ace from junior setter Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) and 13 digs and an ace from junior libero Victoria Caiano (Acushnet, Mass.). Junior middle hitter Abigail Reardon (Fairhaven, Mass.) added five kills and a solo block for the visitors, while freshman middle hitter Alexis Starks (Milford, Mass.) contributed three kills and four blocks (three solo), and senior right side hitter Becca Whalen (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied three kills and two blocks (one solo).

Both teams wrap up regular season play on Saturday afternoon. The Bears travel to MCLA for a four o'clock Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match with the Trailblazers. The Corsairs head to Little East Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut State University to take on the Warriors at one.
