Vikings Notch First Win

SALEM, Mass. - Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) and Amanda Bradley (Peabody, Mass.) each netted three goals apiece to lead the Salem State Vikings to a 13-7 win over the Gordon Fighting Scots on Thursday night at Alumni Field. McLaughlin helped the Vikings build an 8-2 lead in the first half as the Vikings cruised to a six-goal win. The Fighting Scots suffer their fourth loss of the season dropping to 0-4 while the Vikings improve to 1-1 on the year.

Lena Larson (Fredricksburg, VA) (2), Abigail Mansfield (Starksboro, VT) (2), Molly Guthrie (Beaver Falls, Pa.) (2), Megan Gordon (West Bridgewater, Mass.) (1) all for Gordon.

Mansfield scored the first goal of the game for the Fighting Scots, giving them a 1-0 lead 3:14 in the first half. However, at the 6:40 mark, Bradley started a string of eight straight goals for the Vikings with an assist from McClellan.

Salem State dominated the half as they extended their lead to 7-1 after a free position goal from Sullivan with 11:25 to play.

After striking first early in the first half, Gordon ended the scoring drought with Mansfield finding the back of the net. The Fighting Scots trailed 8-2 with 5:50 left in the first half.

In the second, both teams traded goals, scoring five apiece with Guthrie and Larson scoring two goals apiece for the Fighting Scots as the Vikings held off a Gordon comeback attempt.

Charlie Orth (Bourne, Mass.) earned the win (1-1) after allowing seven goals and coming up with 18 saves. Rebecca Resnick (Monroe, Conn.) ended up with the loss (0-4) after conceding 13 goals while saving 11 shots.
