BRIDGEWATER,
Mass. -- Freshman forward Colin Neri
(Upton, Mass.) notched his first two collegiate goals and sophomore
forward Simao Mendes
(Brockton, Mass.) added three assists to lead the Bridgewater State
University men's soccer team to a 6-0 shutout victory over Johnson
& Wales University on Thursday afternoon at Swenson
Field.
Bridgewater remains unbeaten on the season as they
improve to 4-0. The Bears have outscored their opponents by a
margin of 21-4 over the first four games.
Bridgewater led 4-0 at the half as forwards
Jose
DePina (Boston, Mass.), Matt
Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.), Craig
Shadduck (Braintree, Mass.) and David
Wilson (Charlton, Mass.) each found the back of the
net with Mendes assisting on three of
the four first half goals. For DePina it was his team-leading
sixth goal of the season.
Neri rounded out the scoring with a pair of goals
less than a minute apart late in the second half. The first
of his two tallies came at the 82:59 mark with senior midfielder
Kazuhisa
Miyata (Hyogo, Japan) assisting on the goal.
Neri made it a 6-0 game just 43 seconds later.
BSU junior netminder DJ
Siewierski (Stow, Mass.) recorded his first career
shutout between the pipes for the Bears as he registered one
save. Senior Joe Ferraro (Freehold,
N.J.) and sophomore Sean Dorsey (Franklin,
Mass.) combined for three saves in goal for the
Wildcats.
Bridgewater held a 17-6 shot advantage for the game
as well as a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Bears will open up Massachusetts State
Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Saturday
when they travel to Westfield State to take on the Owls at 4:00
PM. Johnson & Wales (1-4-1) heads to Suffolk University
also on Saturday (7:30 PM) for a Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC) match with the Rams.
