Field Hockey Blanks ECSU Behind Farland's Two Goals

Bridgewater, Mass. - Freshman midfielder Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, MA) netted a pair of goals to lead the Bridgewater State College field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Little East Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut State University this afternoon in Bridgewater.

The Bears have won four straight games to start the season as they are 4-0 with a 2-0 mark in Little East play.  Eastern dips to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the LEC   

Farland scored an unassisted goal in the 15th minute of play to give BSC a 1-0 lead.  She then notched her second goal of the game and third of the season in the 52nd minute off a penalty corner. Junior forward Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA) assisted on the big insurance marker as she extended her point scoring streak to four games.

Junior netminder Katie Weber (Arlington, MA) posted her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career.  Weber and her teammates have given up just one goal in four games this season.

The Bears outshot the Warriors by a margin of 11-2 and held an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.  Both of Eastern's shots came within the first ten minutes of play.

ECSU Senior Tia Mucciarone (Franklin, MA) turned aside six shots in goal for the Warriors who also received a defensive save from sophomore defender Liz Bolduc (Stonington, CT).

Bridgewater will hit the road the road for the first time this season as the Bears travel to Babson College on Tuesday (7:00 PM) for a non-conference tilt with the Beavers.  Eastern travels to Connecticut College also on Tuesday for a 4:30 game with the Camels.
