Falcons Fall Twice to Rams in MASCAC Action

Cormier Notches 1st Career HR

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Rams of Framingham State, (8-7, 12-4) in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at the Maple Street Field.

How It Happened - Game One

Grad student Kirsten Dick (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a 2-run home run to centerfield to give the Rams and early lead. The Falcons answered in the second inning forging ahead 4-2. Junior Morgan Cormier (Leominster, Mass.) led off the frame with a homerun to left field and capitalized on a pair of defensive errors to plate three more runs. Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) and Juliana Savone (Palm Coast, Fla.) each picked up RBI's.

Framingham pushed ahead 5-4 in the third inning capped by a 2 RBI double to right field off the bat of Payton Ceglarski (Taunton, Mass.).

Trailing 7-4 in the sixth inning the Green and Gold scratched out a pair of runs in the top of the frame. With runners on first and second, freshman Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.) plated classmate Lauren Kirkconnell (Dayville, Conn.) with a seeing-eye single up the middle and came around to score two batters later on a throwing error.

Kirkconnell had the big hit in the seventh, with two outs the first year laced an RBI single to right field to tie the game 7-all. However, the Rams would take the win in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly from Laela Pepin (Acushnet, Mass.).

Inside the Numbers – Game One

• Cormier was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Cisowski was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI
• Senior Taylor Colvin (Lancaster, Mass.) took the loss for the Falcons, going the distance with 8 k's.
• Kirsten Dick led the Rams with two hits and three RBI's
• Sophomore Shannon Ward (Newport, RI) had the win in relief.

How It Happened - Game Two
In game two, the Rams grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two run single from Camille Desrochers and a double from Kirsten Dick. The Falcons got on the board in the top of third as they capitalized on a pair of errors to score two runs.

The Falcon evened the score in the top of the fourth. With one out Cormier had a bunt single and came around to score on a Kirkconnell RBI single to right center field.

In the bottom of the frame, the Rams plated three runs on RBI singles from Swanson, Desrochers and Dick to take a 6-3 lead. They increased the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Smyth three run shot to left put the Rams up 9-3.

The Falcons added a run in the top of the sixth. With runners on the corners and no outs, Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, Mass.) hit a fly ball to right scoring the run from third, but the runner was caught off first for the double play allowing the Rams to work out of the inning. The Rams added three more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the run shortened victory

Inside the Numbers – Game Two
• Ward earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going six innings allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits with six strikeouts.
• Cahill took the loss for the Falcons going three and two thirds allowing six earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
• Kirkconnell and Cormier had the only hits for the Falcons
• Grass drew three walks and had a run scored
