WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University women's soccer moved to a game over .500 on the season with a 3-0 win over Smith College on Tuesday afternoon in Northampton.
Westfield improves to 4-3-2, winning their third straight match after a tough early season slate with the non-conference win. Smith is now 2-6 on the season
Westfield got a good defensive effort as the Owls out-shot the pioneers 18-6 on the afternoon. Westfield State goalkeeper Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) made three saves in posting her third shutout of the season.
Westfield opened the scoring in the 36th minute with Kiana Muratsuka (Mililani, Hi.) burying a penalty kick, then the Owls extended their lead to 2-0 with Kylie Tomasetti (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin) heading home Delaney Parker's (Orange, Mass./Mahar) penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
Parker capped the scoring with a goal of her own in the 72nd minute for the 3-0 final margin.
Westfield will open conference play on Saturday, hosting Worcester State at noon at Alumni Field.
