Arbia and Tibbetts collect one goal each for Green and Gold

 Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team dropped a tough 3-2 overtime decision to the Lancers of Worcester State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field on senior as the Falcons honored seniors Sydney Alto, Jessica Morse, Kaleigh Visbaras, Emily Riggins, Sophia Piper, Madison Araujo, Joyce Arbia & Jenna Morse in a pre-game ceremony.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 13:08 mark of the first period when senior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, NY) collected a rebound off the stick of junior Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) and deposited a shot into the lower right corner of the cage for her second tally on the season for the 1-0 lead.

Worcester State knotted the score at 1-1 with seven minutes remaining in the first half as senior Grace Adams (Leominster, MA) received a feed from classmate Zoe Athanasopoulos (Hopedale, MA) and struck for her 12th score of the 2023 campaign.

Following the intermission, the Green and Gold regained the lead four and half minutes into the third quarter with sophomore Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) tipping home a pass from classmate Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) and tucked the ball inside the far post for her sixth goal of the year for the 2-1 advantage.

The Lancers retied the contest at 2-2 at the 44:56 mark when junior Madison Avilla (Westport, MA) netted her fourth marker on the season to send the contest to overtime. In the overtime period Worcester State secured the victory three minutes into the extra frame as Adams fired a shot into the left side of the cage, resulting in the 3-2 final.
