Hiller Notches 100th Career Goal in Senior Day Win over Fitchburg

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) scored a game-high eight goals, including the 100th of her career, to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 22-2 Senior Day victory over visiting Fitchburg State University on Saturday at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 4-5 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 1-7 with their seventh straight setback. Bridgewater State is now 20-1 all-time versus the Falcons dating back to 2008.

Prior to the start of the game, the Bears honored Hiller and fellow seniors Kelsi Brennan (Dedham, Mass.), Taylor Carroll (Carver, Mass.), Meagan Marshall (Hyde Park, N.Y.), Becky Tynan (Bellingham, Mass.) and Elise Weber (Wallingford, Pa.).

Bridgewater State scored the first eight goals of the contest, held a 14-1 lead at the break and got up by as many as 21 goals (22-1) in the second half.

Hiller added three ground balls, a team-high five draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Her milestone goal came with 13:26 remaining in the second half.

Thirteen different Bears scored in the game led by Hiller's eight tallies. Brennan, Carroll, Marshall, Tynan, Lindsay Brown (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Hayley Carron (Hopedale, Mass.), Lily Carson (Medford, Mass.), Savannah Herrington (Kinnelon, N.J.), Kristen MacDonald (Hull, Mass.), Katie O'Brien (Pembroke, Mass.), Katie Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Katherine Wrona (Belchertown, Mass.) also found the back of the net for Bridgewater State with Herrington and O'Brien each notching a pair. MacDonald and Marshall both recorded their first collegiate goals, while Tynan scored for the first time this season.

The Bears assisted on 11 of the 22 goals with Swart dishing out a game-high three assists, while Brennan and Brown tallied two assists apiece.

Bridgewater finished with a 40-5 shot advantage for the game as well as a 31-8 edge in ground balls. The Bears also converted on 7 of 13 free position attempts.

Olivia Kerrigan (Braintree, Mass.) and Laura Giovaniello (Walpole, Mass.) split the game between the pipes for the hosts. Kerrigan made two saves as she recorded her fourth win of the season, while Giovaniello turned aside three shots.

Francesca Reyes (Malden, Mass.) made 11 saves in goal for the Falcons.

Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored for Fitchburg State. Kopacz led all players with seven draw controls.

Up Next: Both teams wrap up the 2021 season next week. The Bears travel to Worcester State University on Thursday night for a seven o'clock game with the Lancers, while Falcons head to Mass. Maritime Academy on Friday afternoon for a five o'clock game with the Buccaneers.
