Worcester, MA- After a back and forth battle that saw multiple lead changes and ties last Saturday versus WPI, the Lancers Women's Soccer team (1-3, 0-0) returns to action in New Hampshire to take on Keene State. The Lancers have found their scoring momentum the last couple of games and will now look to begin a winning streak as conference play approaches.
Final
Worcester State: 0
Keene State: 0
How It Happened:
The first half started out with an equal possession controlled start for both teams. The Lancers started off the scoring opportunities from a shot by sophomore Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) which ended up missing high and right. The Keene State Owls responded with a shot by Kaylee Cormier that missed to the right as well. The Owls received a foul created by Emily O'Connell and Worcester got another shot, this time on net, by first year Ava Chevalier (Brimfield, MA). The ball was headed high center but Keen's Riley Andriski stood tall in net preventing the scoring opportunity. The Lances would look for a change of pass with a substitution, putting sophomore Amanda Cosco (Watertown, MA) in for junior Ella Tatarczuk (Bedford, MA) halfway through the opening half. Both teams battled hard creating many chances that just were not able to produce anything for the scoreboard. A shot by Worcesters' sophomore Olivia Magierowski (Brimfield, MA) missed right and a shot by Kaylee Cormier for Keene missed high. The half came to an end after rushes from both teams that unfortunately did not convert to scores.
In the second half, Keene would start off hot from a shot by Allison Kenyon, but the Worcester defense was unbreakable, blocking the attempt. The Owls sustained the pressure getting another shot once again by Elizabeth Tschudin which had to be saved by sophomore Ella Gumienny (Douglas, MA) to keep the game tied (0-0) at 59:10 in the game. A foul by Keene's Kaylee Cormier created a chance for the Lancers' but Magierowski's attempt ended up being saved by the Owls. Keene responded right back but Gumienny was able to fend it off. A couple of movements up and down the field by both teams would dictate a good portion of the second half and a shot by the Owl's Elizabeth Tschudin tested Worcester's Gumienny on the lower left side but she was able to make a miracle save yet again. While Keene was on the Lancers defense was just equally strong in shutting down any attempt and preserving the 0-0 tie.
Gumienny would end the night with six saves in the shutout tie.
