Women’s Basketball Battles Through Worcester State

Worcester, Mass. - The Framingham State women's basketball team used a 44-point first half to defeat Worcester State in MASCAC action Thursday evening in Framingham. The contest was a makeup of a game originally scheduled for January 25th.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Framingham State 77. Worcester State 57 

- Records:  Framingham State (12-4, 4-2 MASCAC), Worcester State (7-12, 3-3 MASCAC) 

- Location: John P. Brissette Court – Worcester, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Worcester State drew first blood in the first quarter in what would prove to be a high-scoring and tightly-contested opening 10 minutes, with the score settling at 21-19 Framingham State after one quarter.   

  • Framingham State would start to pull away in the second quarter, turning a two-point margin into a commanding 44-31 lead outscoring Worcester 23-12 in the second. 

  • The Rams dominance continued stretching the margin to twenty late in the third and led by as many as 23 midway through the fourth.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Katherine Haselton led the way for the Rams scoring 20 points on 8-of-17 from the floor adding 3 boards, three assists and a steal.  

  • Katty Haidul and Flannery O'Connor each earned double-doubles for the Rams. Haidul scored 16 with 10 boards and O'Connor picked up 14 with 13 rebounds.  

  • Elizabeth Gallella was the only Lancer with double-digits scoring 14 points on 5-of-11 from the field.  

  • The Rams shot 42% from the field and 50% from long range. The Lancers really struggled shooting only 25% from the floor and 14% from downtown.

The Rams return to the court on Saturday when they head to Bridgewater State for a 2pm matchup against the Bears.
