Framingham, Mass.– The Castleton State field hockey team scored two first half goals and held off a fourth quarter surge as Framingham State by a score of 2-1 in the Little East Conference opener for both squads.
THE BASICS:
- Score: Castleton 2, Framingham State 1
- Records: Framingham State (1-1, 0-1 LEC), Castleton State (2-2, 1-0 LEC)
- Location: Maple Street Field – Framingham, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Spartans got on the board in the opening minutes of the second quarter when Emily Harris finished off her own rebound off a save from Grace Pushor.
- Late in the second frame Madelyn Cote dribbled around a defender and sent a long strike into the bottom left of the cage to take a 2-0 lead.
- It looked like the Rams were going to get on the board off a corner play with about six minutes to play in regulation when Brandi Core's shot beat the Spartans keeper but was swatted out of danger by Emily Harris.
- The Rams scored with just under two minutes to play when Jordyn O'Boyle finished a one-time pass from Corlene Guenard past a crashing goalie Castleton keeper.
- The Spartans were able to play solid defense and keep the Rams from converting on a couple penalty corners in the final minute of play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Grace Pushor took the loss making five stops in goal for the Rams.
- Maddi Leduc made six saves in the win for the Spartans.
- The Rams held the advantage in shots 15-to-10 and were awarded nine penalty corners to the Castleton three.

- The Rams return to the field on Wednesday, September 15th when they host Regis College at 7pm. Castleton will travel to RPI on Tuesday at for a 4pm matchup.
