Colonels Sweep Buccaneers in Home Opener Doubleheader

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Softball team swept non-conference opponent Mass. Maritime in their home opener on D. Forbes Will Field Wednesday afternoon.

 

With the wins, Curry improves to 4-7.

 

Game 1 - Curry 4, Mass. Maritime 3

 

The visiting Mass. Maritime Buccaneers tallied a run on the board first in the afternoon matchup. Malarie Pittsley singling to left-center, batting in Abby Pope. The Colonels answered back with an RBI single from Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) down the left-field line to bat in Natalia Okleasky (Coventry, R.I.). 

Curry's Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) tallied the Colonels' second run, capitalizing on a ground out to third base. 

Curry furthered their lead in the bottom of the fourth, Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.) recording an RBI double, sending Jordan Ferullo (Burlington, Mass.) into home putting her side up 3-1. An RBI double from Colonels' first baseman Lexi Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) in the bottom of the fifth marked Curry's fourth run. 

Mass. Maritime was unable to catch the Colonels as they only tallied two runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Curry would take the first contest of the afternoon by a score of 4-3.

Curry's Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) was credited with the win recording five innings pitched and allowing just one run. 



Game 2 - Curry 8, Mass. Maritime 0

 

The second game of the afternoon doubleheader saw no score in the opening three innings. Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) marked an RBI double, batting in Sienna Kulpa (Taunton, Mass.) for the first run of the second matchup. Rogers tallied the second run, capitalizing on a Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) single. Curry centerfielder Emily Bussiere capped off scoring for the Colonels in the fourth inning, putting her side up 3-0. 

Curry's Natalia Okleasky batted in Buckner to begin scoring for the Colonels in the bottom of the fifth. A two-RBI shot to center-field from Kate Hancock (Holden, Mass.) batted in two more runs for the Colonels. Curry sealed the victory with a Madelyn White double to left field, batting in Hancock for the final run of the day. 

Curry's Jillian Rogers pitched five innings, tallying just four hits in the five-inning victory over the visiting Buccaneers.
